Error added: 2007-11-09T13:29:55Z
/var/named/named.ca holds the wrong IP address for L.ROOT-SERVERS.NET. It is listed as 198.32.64.12 but should be 199.7.83.42.
Periodically the root nameservers are updated. They announce this on BIND mailing lists apparently. But for mere mortals, the trick is to occasionally update your named.ca There are scripts around that will do it pretty simply, or when you see these errors appear then just manually load a fresh named.ca I found this posting pretty helpful: http://lists.netisland.net/archives/plug/plug-2007-11/msg00375.html Cheers, Miles --- miles@quackyduck.com
get a copy of the file from internic: wget ftp://ftp.internic.net/domain/named.root
On Debian and derivative systems, the file to check is /etc/bind/db.root
